Dr. Kumar S. K. Varadwaj was born on April 5, 1975, at Cuttack, Odisha. He did his M.Sc. in Chemistry from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, in 1998 and Ph.D. in 2005 in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology from IIT, Kharagpur. He was a Senior Research Fellow of CSIR in IIT Kharagpur, during which he worked on iron oxide nanoparticles. From 2005 to 2008, he was a BK21 Fellow at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST),  South Korea, where he gained expertise in the gas-phase synthesis of silicide nanowires, their characterization, and study of their magnetic and optical properties. He did the next postdoctoral research at Research Center for Integrated Quantum Electronics (RCIQE), Hokkaido University, Japan, from 2008 to 2010. There he worked on electron beam lithography and MOCVD to grow III-V semiconductor nanowires and studied their low-temperature photoluminescence. He joined Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, as a Lecturer in Chemistry in 2010. At present he is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Ravenshaw University. He teaches thermodynamics, solid-state chemistry, and electrochemistry. His research interests are synthesis and structure-property relationship in nano heterostructures, electrocatalytic applications of transition metal oxide, and noble metal nanostructures. He has 21 publications in international journals of repute, such as Journal of American Chemical Society (JACS), Chemical Communications, Nano Letters, and Electrochemica Acta. Two students have been awarded  Ph.D. degree working under his guidance.
