Prof. (Dr.) Dayanidhi Patnaik was a former Professor of Chemistry in Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. Dr. Patnaik worked with Prof. R. G. W Norris and Prof. G. B. Porter, Nobel Laureates, for his Ph.D. from Cambridge University. He was Patna University Blue in Hockey. The award is instituted by his students, and it carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-.  

(i)         The award is given to the best research paper published based on the work carried out in any laboratory in Odisha.  

(ii)        Research articles published or accepted for publication (with DOI number) during the period from 1^st August of the preceding year to 31^st July of the current calendar year shall be considered for the award. 

(iii)      The application must be accompanied by three copies of the research article, as stated at (ii) above.  

(iv)      The awardee shall deliver a talk in the Annual Conference of the OCS.  

Prof. R. C. Tripathy, after a stint in a sugar factory, joined the faculty of the Chemistry Department, Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. He retired from Ravenshaw College after service of about thirty years. He was particularly well known for his experimental skills. The award is instituted by his daughter Dr. Manorama Mishra.  

There are two awards in this category, each carrying a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-. 

(a)   Prof. R.C. Tripathy Award - Category I for State Government-Funded or State-Level Colleges/ Universities/ Institutes.

(b)   Prof. R.C. Tripathy Award - Category II for Central Government-Funded or National-Level Colleges/ Universities/ Institutes.  

(i)         The award is given based on the quality of overall research work carried out by the candidate during the preceding five calendar years, as evidenced by research publications (e.g., for the 2024 award, publications from 2020 to 2024 shall be considered).  

(ii)        The two awards shall be based on research work carried out in any laboratory inside Odisha, or, in any laboratory outside Odisha.  

(iii)      The maximum age limit for both the awards is 40 (Forty) years (as on 31^st August of the current calendar year). Proof of age shall be furnished along with the application.  

(iv)      Applications must be accompanied by a list of publications in refereed journals during the last 5 years and three copies of reprints of at least two publications, considered significant by the candidate and published during the last five years. The application must mention clearly whether the application is for (a) or (b) above. 

(vi)      The awardee shall be required to deliver a talk in the Annual Conference of the OCS.  

Prof. R. K. Nanda studied and carried out his research in the Chemistry Department of Ravenshaw College. He was also in the faculty of the Chemistry Department, Ravenshaw College. He is a former Professor of Chemistry at Utkal University, Vani Vihar. The award is instituted by his students and carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-.  

(i)         Award to the best research paper presented in the Annual Conference of OCS.  

(ii)        The candidate must be a teacher or a full-time research worker in a recognized institution of Odisha.  

(iii)      The maximum age limit for the award is 32 years (as on 31^st August of the current calendar year).  

Prof. G. B. Behera studied and carried out his research in the Chemistry Department of Ravenshaw College. He was also in the faculty of the Chemistry Department, Ravenshaw College. He is a former Professor of Chemistry at Sambalpur University, Burla. The award is instituted by his students and carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 3,000/-.  

(i)         The award is for the best Ph. D. thesis of any University of Odisha.  

(ii)        Open to Ph. D. awarded during the period from 1^st August of the preceding year to 31^st July of the current calendar year.  

(iii)      The work (or a significant part of it) must have been carried out is any institution in Odisha, recognized for Ph. D. work.  

(iv)      For the Ph. D. degree in an interdisciplinary subject, the applicant shall be considered for the award if he/she holds a Master’s Degree in Chemistry.  

(v)        Besides self-nomination, the supervisor of the Ph. D. work may also nominate a candidate for the award.  

(vi)      The application (or nomination by the supervisor) must include (a) Broad area of the Ph. D. work (i.e., Physical, Inorganic, Organic, etc.). (b) Copy of the Ph. D. notification. (c)An abstract (hard and soft copies) of the thesis in about 5 pages (including figures & tables) highlighting the significant original contribution. (d) Reprints of publications in refereed journals.  

(vii)     Applicants may be required to present their work before the Awards Committee (in about 20-30 minutes) on the date and time fixed by the Committee.  

(viii)   The awardee shall present the Ph. D. work in the Annual Conference of the OCS.  

(ix)      There is no age limit for the award. 

The award is instituted by Dr. C. R. Das, a former President of the Orissa Chemical Society, in memory of his late father, Kulamani Das. The award carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 3,000/-.  

(i)         The award is given to the best research paper published/accepted for publication in Environmental Science in a refereed journal from 1^st August of the preceding year to 31^st July of the current calendar year.  

(ii)        The applicant must hold a Post Graduate Degree in Chemistry.  

(iii)      The application must be accompanied by three copies of the reprint of the published/accepted paper (with ODI number). 

(iv)      The awardee shall be required to present the selected paper in the Annual Conference of the OCS. 

(v)        The maximum age limit for the award is 40 years (as on 31^st August of the current calendar year).  

Prof. K. K. Patnaik was Director, State Forensic Science Laboratory, Orissa. He was a former Principal of Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, and a member of the Orissa Public Service Commission. The award is instituted by his family and carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-. It is awarded to the student securing the highest percentage of marks in M.Sc. Chemistry examination in the State, during the preceding academic year. 

The award is instituted by Dr. C. R. Mishra, a former Deputy General Manager. NALCO, in memory of his mother and carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-. It is awarded to the lady student securing the highest percentage of marks in M.Sc. Chemistry Examination in the State during the preceding academic year. 

The award is instituted by Prof. Prakash Kumar Mohanty, a former Professor of Chemistry, Utkal University, Vani Vihar, in memory of his father, Sri B. K. Mohanty. A book grant of Rs. 4,000/- will be given to one first semester Post Graduate Chemistry student of the State based on his/her performance in the Honours Examination. Applications are to be forwarded by the concerned Head of the Department. The awardee shall furnish documentary evidence to the HOD of the concerned PG Department regarding the purchase of books. 

The award is Instituted by Dr. C. R. Mishra, a former Deputy General Manager, NALCO, in memory of his grandmother. It carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 1,000/-. It is awarded to the student securing the highest percentile in the GATE score from among the M.Sc. Chemistry students of Odisha. 

Prof. Pranabandhu Tripathy studied and carried out his research in Chemistry at Ravenshaw College, where he was also in the faculty, before joining the University Grants Commission. 

The award is instituted by his former student Prof. Purusottam Jena, Department of Physics, College of Humanities and Sciences, Richmond, Virginia, USA, in recognition of the contribution of Dr. Tripathy in shaping Prof. Jena's academic career.  

The award carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- and shall be presented in the Annual Conference of the Orissa Chemical Society.

(i)         The award is for securing the highest rank among the CSIRUGC NET qualifiers from Odisha in Chemistry, in the JRF category, in the current calendar year. 

(ii)        The student may be from any College/University/Institute located in Odisha. 

(iii)      The candidate must have obtained his/her M.Sc. degree from Odisha. 

(iv)      In case there is more than one such examination in a calendar year, the prize money will be equally divided among all the toppers.  

Prof. P. K. Jesthy has taught and worked as a Principal in various colleges of Odisha. He retired as Director, Higher Education, Odisha.  Prof. Jesthy has extensive research experience and has published 37 research papers in various journals, including such prestigious ones as the Journal of American Chemical Society and Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. He did post-doctoral research at the Washington State University (WSU) (twice) and the University of Utah, USA. In WSU, he worked on Organoboron and Organometallic compounds with Prof. DS Matteson, who at that time was a leading Organometallic Chemist.  

The award is instituted by Prof. Jesthy in remembrance of his association with Prof. Matteson, whom he holds in very high esteem. It carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,000/- and a certificate to be awarded in the Annual Conference of the Orissa Chemical Society. 

(i)         The award is given to the best research paper published/accepted in metaloorganic/ organometallics, during the period 1^stAugust of the preceding year and 31^st July of the current calendar year. 

(ii)        The applicant must hold a postgraduate degree in Chemistry. 

(iii)      The application must be accompanied by three copies of the reprint of the published/accepted paper (with ODI number).  

(iv)     The awardee shall deliver a talk on the work in the Annual Conference of the OCS. 

Prof. Sripati Pani, born on 8^th August 1918, graduated from Ravenshaw College with Chemistry Honours in 1944, did his Master’s in Chemistry from Patna University. Then he moved to London University for his Ph.D. under Prof. Henry Terry. There he had attended the classes of Noble Laureates Prof. Dirac (1933), Prof. Bragg (1915), etc. He came back to India in 1950 and joined Ravenshaw College in 1950. Later in 1957, he moved to UCE Burla and then to Sambalpur University in 1969, where he retired from his glorious academic career in 1977 as the Head of the Department of Chemistry. He was never interested in any administrative positions offered to him to have undivided attention to his teaching and research activities. He was a pioneer in inorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry. 

This award is instituted by his family (Pani Family) in remembrance of Prof. S. Pani's contribution to teaching and research to the State of Odisha.  

The award carries a certificate and cash prize of Rs. 4,000/-. 

(i)         The award is given to the best research paper published/accepted for publication in inorganic chemistry in a refereed journal from 1^st August of the preceding year to 31^st July of the current calendar year.  

(ii)        The applicant must hold a Post Graduate Degree in Chemistry. 

(iii)      The application must be accompanied by three copies of the reprint of the published/accepted paper (with ODI number). 

(iv)      The awardee shall be required to present the selected paper in the Annual Conference of the OCS.  

(v)        The maximum age limit for the award is 40 years (as on 31^st August of the current calendar year).  

Sri Biswaprakash Nayak, son of Late Prof.(Dr.) Bimbadhar Nayak, on behalf of the family members, has instituted this award in the Orissa Chemical Society in memory of Prof. Nayak, a distinguished Professor of Chemistry and a past President of the Orissa Chemical Society. The endowment fund for the award is Rs 2,00,000/- (Rupees two lakh only). The following are about the award and the governing guidelines:

       i.         The name of the Award is 'Prof. Bimbadhar Nayak Memorial Award’. 

      ii.         The year from which the award will be presented is 2022.

     iii.         The award will be given to the author(s) of a research paper published in a high impact factor journal. Only the papers published by 31st July of the same calendar year in which the award is given can be considered. 

     iv.         The maximum age limit of the first author receiving the award is 40 years as of 31^st August of the calendar year in which the award is given.  

      v.         The area of the published research papers can be any one of physical/theoretical/ computational chemistry. 

     vi.         There will be a cash prize of Rs 5,000/- (rupees five thousand only) for the first author (student author). A certificate will be given to the awardee mentioning the name of the award, the title of the published paper, and the name(s) of the author(s). The awardee will furnish a ‘No-Objection Certificate’ from co-authors of the paper if the award paper is multi-authored. 

    vii.         The awardee will be asked to present a lecture on the subject of the published paper for a suitable duration, as decided by the OCS. 

   viii.         The OCS may give this award in the Annual or Regional Conference or any other state-level OCS meeting. 

     ix.         The family members will be informed of the above selection every year before the award is given. A family member may be requested to attend the award meeting. 

      x.         The OCS can suitably modify any of the above guidelines while instituting the award.

Dr. Kalpita Bhatta, daughter of Late Prof.(Dr.) Dinabandhu Bhatta, a distinguished Professor of Chemistry, has instituted an award on behalf of the family members in the Orissa Chemical Society in memory of Prof. Bhatta. The endowment fund for the award is Rs 2,00,000/- (Rupees two lakh only). The following are about the award and the governing guidelines:

       I.         The name of the Award is 'Prof. Dinabandhu Bhatta Memorial Award’. 

     II.         The year from which the award is instituted is 2022. 

    III.         The area of the published research papers is organic chemistry. 

    IV.         The award will be given to the author(s) of a research paper published in a high impact factor journal. Only the documents published during the period from 1^st August of the preceding year to 31^st July of the current calendar year in which the award is given can be considered. 

     V.         The first author receiving the award will be less than 40 years of age as of 31^st August of the current calendar year. 

    VI.         There will be a cash prize of Rs 5,000/- (rupees five thousand only) for the first author (student author).

  VII.         A certificate will be given to the awardee mentioning the name of the award, the title of the published paper, and the name(s) of the author(s). The awardee will furnish a ‘No-Objection Certificate’ from co-authors of the paper if the award paper is multi-authored. 

 VIII.         The awardee will be asked to present a lecture on the published paper for a suitable duration, as decided by the OCS. 

    IX.         The OCS may give this award in the Annual or Regional Meetings or any other state-level OCS meeting. 

     X.         The family members will be informed of the above selection every year before the award. A member of the family may be requested to attend the award meeting. 

    XI.         The OCS can suitably modify any of the above guidelines while instituting the award. 

Prof. Amar Mohanty, University of Guelph, ON, Canada, has instituted an award in Orissa Chemical Society in the name of his wife, Prof. Manju Misra, with an endowment fund of five lakh rupees. The award recognizes women’s leadership in science and education and celebrates women’s contribution to the advancement and promotion of chemistry.

1. The name of the award is “Prof. Manju Misra Award”. 
2. Women serving in any educational or research institute of Odisha with a minimum qualification of Ph.D. in Chemistry are eligible to apply. They shall have demonstrated contribution to advancing chemistry through research publications in any branch of chemical sciences. 
3. The applicant will be above 40 years and below 60 years of age on 31^st July of the current academic year for which the award is given. Proof of age shall be furnished along with the application.  
4. The date of research papers published/accepted for publication (with DOI number) submitted for the award shall be on or before 31^st July of the current academic year for which the award is given.
5. Applications must be accompanied by a list of publications in refereed journals during the last 5 years, with IMPACT FACTOR mentioned against each, and reprints of at least two publications, considered significant by the candidate and published in the last 5 years.
6. The awardee will receive a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- (fifteen thousand rupees only) and a citation. She will be required to give a presentation of 20 minutes duration on her research work relevant to the paper(s) based on which the award was made. 
7. The award is given at the OCS Annual Conference or any other OCS conference from 2022. 
8. Prof. Amar Mohanty and/or his family members are intimated of the above award every year before the award is given. 
9. A member of the family may be requested to attend the award meeting. 
10. The OCS can suitably modify any of the above guidelines as and when required. 

1. All awards shall be through self-nomination and/or as stipulated otherwise. 

2. The applicant must be a resident of Odisha by birth or by domicile. 

3. In addition to stipulations under the specific award category, all applications (or nominations) must be accompanied by complete Curriculum Vitae (Name, address, date of birth, present occupation, email ID, mobile number, and overall career and academic profile).  

4. The minimum number of applications for any award during a particular year is 03 (Three), where research papers/works are considered.  

5.  A paper shall be considered only once for any particular category of award. The applicant shall give an undertaking to the effect that the paper had not been submitted earlier for the same award.  

6. The awardee shall be given the award only after presenting the selected research paper/research work in the Annual Conference of the OCS, wherever there is such a stipulation. In exceptional cases (to be decided by the OCS Awards Committee), the awardee may be permitted to present the work in the Regional Conference. In extraordinary cases (e.g., the awardee is not in the country), this provision may be waived.  

7.  In the case of multiple authorship, the API guideline by the UGC will be followed. However, the other co-authors of the papers shall also express their no objection in writing, for a particular author being an applicant for the award.  

8. Wherever an award concerns the research paper(s), the application must be accompanied by three copies of the relevant paper(s).  

9. For all awards, the decision of the Awards Committee constituted by the Executive Committee shall be final. 

10. The last date for application is 31^st August of the current calendar year. This may be changed depending on the prevailing circumstances in a particular year. Please refer to the OCS Notification inviting applications for the awards.
